Oil on canvas, 60 x 60 cms cms. Part of a series of paintings and prints entitled Somme Landscapes and inspried by a visit the the First World War battlefields of the Somme. The three helmets were part of a stash of wartime archeological finds at the back of a storeroom in a tiny museum in the town of Albert in The Somme Department of France. Hidden away and forgotten and yet they represented the lives of three soldiers, two Allied and one German, who must have perished on the battlefield.
This painting is unframed but on deep stretched linen (4cms) and so would not require framing. The paints used are traditional artist quality oils that will remain light fast and not fade or deteriorate over time.
